1957 Corvette fuelie
|
|
This 1957 Corvette Fuelie is a highly coveted addition to any serious collector's stable. It is one of the first eleven big-brake fuelies produced prior to the air box cars. Body-off restored to N.C.R.S. specifications, it carries with it the prestigious Top Flight award. It also carries with it some very probable, but undocumented race history. It is believed to be one of the four Corvettes campaigned by Lindsey Hopkins ( the number four car ) and driven by Dr. Dick Thompson, a.k.a. The Flying Dentist. Photos show this car racing at Elkhart Lake and the Milwaukee County Fairgrounds, early on. This fuel-injected, big brake, three speed, heater and radio delete car was specially ordered to compete . Some years later it was specially restored to score well with the judges of N.C.R.S., and so it did.
